Customers utilizing 100% green energy certified by REC can demonstrate neutralizing their Scope 2 emissions within the market-based Scope 2 category. It is also necessary to calculate the emissions from electricity sourced from the grid under the location-based scope 2. Both GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 recommend this approach.

1- If your energy consumption is certified as 100% renewable:

  • Navigate to the "Source Management" section under the Admin Panel on the Platform.
  • Create a new energy source and assign it to the relevant location.
  • Set the Market-based emission factor to "0" to accurately reflect the influence of green energy on the electricity consumption data.

2- If your energy consumption is not certified as 100% renewable:

If your energy consumption is not 100% renewable energy certified, you need to enter two different energy consumption data sets.

For example, if you have 70% green energy certified usage and 30% uncertified usage, enter these two data sets separately and set the market-based emission factor to "0" for the certified data entry.

- For the 70% certified energy usage:

  • Navigate to the "Source Management" section under the Admin Panel on the Platform.
  • Create a new energy source and assign it to the relevant location.
  • Select the appropriate emission factor from the EF library in the Location-based section and input "0" for the market-based emission factor.

- For the 30% non-certified energy usage:

  • Navigate to the "Source Management" section under the Admin Panel on the Platform.
  • Create a new energy source and assign it to the relevant location.
  • Choose the appropriate emission factor for this source. Note that you don't input "0" for the market-based emission factor in this case.

You can also edit existing sources instead of creating new ones to streamline the process.
